Learn how to use the Airscape Bucket Lid Insert for bulk coffee bean storage. Step-by-step guide to keep your roasted or green coffee fresh.

Quick answer

The Airscape Bucket Lid Insert fits inside a standard 5-gallon bucket to create an airtight seal that keeps bulk roasted or green coffee beans fresh for longer.

Why a bucket lid insert matters for coffee freshness

Roasted coffee releases CO₂ for days after roasting. A simple bucket lid traps that gas, but the Airscape insert uses a patented air-seal system that pushes out excess air as you close the lid. This reduces oxygen exposure, which is the main cause of stale coffee.

For green coffee, moisture control is more important than degassing. The Airscape insert provides a stable, airtight environment that protects beans from humidity and pests without the need for vacuum sealing.

How to use the Airscape Bucket Lid Insert

  1. Prepare the bucket: Clean and dry a standard 5-gallon food-grade bucket. Remove any old labels or residue. Make sure the rim is smooth so the insert can form a proper seal. A dented or warped bucket rim can prevent the insert from sealing. Check the bucket before you start.
  2. Place the insert: Set the Airscape Bucket Lid Insert into the bucket so it sits flat on the rim. Press down gently to seat it. The insert should be centered and level. If the insert rocks or tilts, the seal will be uneven. Reposition it before adding coffee.
  3. Fill with coffee: Pour your bulk roasted or green coffee beans into the bucket. Leave about 1–2 inches of headspace below the rim so the lid can close without resistance. Overfilling can push the insert out of place when you close the lid. Leave room for the seal to work.
  4. Close the lid: Place the bucket lid on top of the insert. Press down firmly around the edge until you hear it snap into place. For the Airscape mechanism, push the center button down to expel air and create a vacuum seal. If the center button pops back up, air is still inside. Press again until it stays down. That means the seal is active.
  5. Store and check: Keep the sealed bucket in a cool, dark place away from heat and sunlight. Check the button every few days: if it has popped up, the seal may have failed and you should reseal the lid. A popped button means oxygen has re-entered. Reseal immediately to protect your coffee.
