Coffee producers in the DRC worked without organization or coordination, forcing them to negotiate independently with buyers who were free to impose price according to their mood. To get a better price, they would take tremendous risks to move their coffee beans to markets in Rwanda. The Muungano Agricultural Cooperative was formed in 2009 to improve the quality of life and the quality of coffee from these growers. Today, the co-op has over 4,000 members, nearly half of which are women. The increased selling power has allowed its members to buy medicine, send their children to school, and improve the quality of their products.

Grace ★★★★★

I brewed this as a pour-over and the toffee sweetness comes through without any bitterness at the end. It's a medium roast, so it still tastes rich but not heavy, and the herbaceous note is subtle enough that I actually enjoy it black.

Sebastian ★★★★★

That zesty brightness really comes through in a pour-over, and the toffee sweetness keeps it from getting too sharp. As a medium roast it's smooth enough that I've been drinking it black all week instead of adding cream. Genuinely one of the more interesting organic beans I've picked up this year.

Sofia ★★★★☆

The toffee sweetness really comes through in a French press, and the herbaceous finish keeps it from tasting flat. I do wish the zesty notes were a bit stronger, since they fade once it cools. Solid medium roast for the price.
