Valeriana wallichii, or Indian valerian, is a perennial herb which grows throughout India and the Himalayas. It can be interchanged with Valeriana officinalis, or garden valerian, common to Europe and Asia. The root of the herb has been used traditionally in Ayurvedic medicine for its sedative properties. Many choose valerian to treat headaches, stress and anxiety due to the sense of relaxation it promotes. As an aromatic herb, it is also often used for its carminative properties.

While valerian root may be used to get a good night’s rest, it is not advisable to use as a long-term treatment for clinically diagnosed insomnia. For those who do not have diagnosed sleep disorders and are looking for a peaceful night’s sleep, it is best to use valerian root regularly as opposed to as needed* – consistency is key! Since this herbal brew does have a pungent taste and smell, we suggest brewing it with another herbal tea like chamomile or peppermint or using lemon or honey to taste. This product may cause drowsiness, do not use when operating a motor vehicle or operating machinery.

I’ve been steeping this Indian valerian loose leaf every night for a week now, and the shift in my sleep has been noticeable enough that I’m already reordering. The leaves are coarse and whole, not dusty powder, which makes straining simple and the tea taste clean rather than bitter.

The loose leaves look beautiful and whole, not crushed into dust like some other valerian I've tried. Steeped for ten minutes and it brewed a nice golden cup that helped me drift off without that groggy feeling the next morning.

The earthy aroma when I open the pouch honestly makes me feel calm before I even brew it, and these loose leaves from the Himalayas steep into a surprisingly smooth tea. I’ve swapped my usual nighttime routine for a cup about an hour before bed and the gentle unwind is noticeable, no grogginess the
